Eminem and Dre Back in the Lab

It’s been no secret that Eminem and Dr. Dre
are back in the studio working on Em’s new album “Relapse“. Over the last week or two thou tracks have begun to leak out to the public. In addition to that rumors have begun to spread about possible tracks, mainly Stan Part 2. Well Em had enough of it all and sent an email to Billboard about it all. Let’s look at each individually, as well as the work Em and Dre are up too.
First, the dynamic duo back at it again. I’ll be one of the first to admit that I was never that big of a fan of Eminem. When he first became mainstream he did have a great producer in Dre, but his topics of choice just didn’t interest me. Yes, he was very gifted lyrically but with his constant bashing of himself, Kim and others he just reminded me of a rap Weird Al Yankovic. As he began to grow as an artist, he began to grow on me. And I’ll have to say I have become a fan, mainly of the latter music he made thou. Having Dre and a known grown, mature Em together has me thinking this album will be nothing but fire. Dre was even working on his own album, but decided to put it on the back burner for his protege. After reading the quote in Billboard, you can tell Em is excited about their work.
“Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man,” Eminem told Billboard. “Just him banging away on tracks and me getting that little spark that makes me write to it. I don’t have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go — not even close. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse. We are up to our old mischievous ways. … Let’s just leave it at that.”
One of Em’s most famous songs was “Stan”. This song had to be one of the most moving rap songs in history and was just genius in the storytelling. And NO, I’m not trying to hype this guy up but it really was a great piece of work. Many fans have felt there is more to be told to the story of Stan and have begged for a sequel. But really, I have to ask the question. WHY?!?! How many times has someone tried to make a part two, or even just a remix to a hit song and ruined it? More times then none the sequel was a flop. Plus, many fans don’t consider how this song ended. “There isn’t a ‘Stan 2,’ and there won’t be,” Em said. “Stan drove his car off a bridge and I’m not writing a song as Stan’s ghost. That would just be really corny.”
Not to long ago one of Em’s upcoming songs “Crack A Bottle” appeared on DJ Big Mike’s “4th Quarter Pressure Mixtape Part 2″. This leak has definitely infuriated the rapper, as the track wasn’t even close to being finished. He said, “It wasn’t close to finished, and it even has me doing guide vocals for Dre as a suggestion of how he could lay his verses down. It’s like someone catches you peeping in your window before you got the Spider Man costume all zipped up! Nobody is supposed to see that. We are gonna finish it up though and get it out there how it’s supposed to be.”
Hearing him say it like that is pretty damn funny, but at the same time hits home. Most people don’t think about how seriously musicians take their work, but this really tells you how much it does hurt when their work is compromised. While most artists would of cut the track from the album and found another, I really respect what Em plans on doing. He’s definitely serious about making sure that the music he makes is out there, but in the way he envisioned it. While I haven’t heard the leaked version, I’ll definitely download a copy for future use to compare the the finished version. I may love hearing unreleased music on these mixtapes this is one song I’ll be waiting to drop in my Winamp playlist. (Yea old school kiddies, no I-Tunes here!)
From starting off a non-fan and eventually converting to one, I can’t wait to hear Eminem’s new album. The original plan was to have it out by the end of 2008, but it has been pushed back to spring 2009. Shady Records plans on releasing 50-Cent’s next album “Before I Self Destruct” first, in early February 2009. I can’t blame them, Eminem will always move but after such a long wait it only makes sense to tease fans for a few more months and build the anticipation.
