Magneto On Hold

So much for that series of X-Men
individual movies that were to come out after the series ended. Word has been leaking that the stand alone movie for a young Magneto is currently on hold. The script is written and ready but 20th Century Fox wants to first see how X-Men Origins: Wolverine does. That movie is scheduled to be released on May 1st, 2009. It’s not a bad idea, but I think there is some flaw in the thinking.

For Wolverine, the character is staying the same. Hugh Jackman is still Wolverine, he’s the one people know. For the Magneto movie, they’ve got to go way back in time to show he came about which means all new cast and characters. Both Magneto and Charles Xavier would be an all new cast. Jackman’s Wolverine could be a box office blockbuster, while a new Magneto could be a dud. People now associate Jackman with the Wolverine. Just like I really can’t see anyone other then Ian McKellen as Magneto. We’ll have to wait and see thou.

If Wolverine does just remotely well, I could see this movie being made. The director and writer, David Goyer puts together A materiel. He was one of the co-writers on Batman Begins
and we all know how that turned out Goyer said, “I think they like the script and they’re just waiting to see what happens with ‘Wolverine’.” He further explained, “I don’t think they would consider moving forward until the movie comes out.”
